2019 Black Canyon Invitational (Girls Varsity Volleyball Tournament)

Saturday, September 14th

(Host sites will be Alhambra High School, Bourgade Catholic HS and Phoenix Christian Prep)

Format: Subject to adjustments depending on number of teams entered.

Pool Play (three matches): Four pools of teams, seeded based on last year’s MaxPreps rankings (while trying to avoid 2 region teams in the same pool).Teams move on to Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze brackets based on finish in pool- All first place to Platinum, second-place to Gold, etc.

Bracket Play (two matches): Four brackets of four teams.

  • First round: Bracket Seeding based on finish in pool play and last year’s MaxPreps rankings.
  • Second Round: Winners play winners, losers play losers.
  • Host schools will be responsible for lines and scorebook for both pool and bracket play.

Rules: All matches will be best two out of three sets. First two sets to 25, third set to 15. There are no caps.

Awards: Trophies awarded to winner of each PM bracket (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze)

Tiebreaker Protocol- To be used in the event of equal records after the AM wave

  • Two-Way tie: Winner of head-to-head match
  • Three-way tie: Highest set percentage, then highest point percentage, then coin toss (if needed)

Entry Fee: $300 (includes five match guarantee for the one day / 16-20 team event)

Weights: Day 1 WEIGHTS: 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285

Day 2 WEIGHTS: 107, 114, 121, 127, 133, 139, 146, 153, 161, 171, 183, 196, 221, 286 Girls Weights (Day 1 only): 101, 110, 118, 125, 130, 135, 145, 160, 185, 225

FORMAT: Team duals tournament. 36 teams will be divided into 6 pools of six teams in a series of duals, five duals per team on Day 1 and five duals on Day 2 to determine team placing. Every wrestler will have a minimum of 10 matches. We will wrestle on eight mats on day one and ten mats on day two.

We can fit secondary wrestlers into the tournament as extras on teams with gaps in their lineups. They won’t score team points but will get mat time.

Awards: Team trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place (based on dual results). We will have; a team Sportsmanship Plaque (as voted on by the referees), individual medals for the championship team. Outstanding Wrestler for Upper, Middle, and Lower weight classes (as voted by the coaches), will receive Fight Shorts. Awards will be presented by WRHS Dineh Club.

  1. FORMAT: Individual bracket, the first two rounds will be single elimination (16 wrestler bracket only) but we will have a ‘fishnet’ pool to at least get two matches for those knocked out of the bracket. It looks like we’ll end up with quite a few girls but we don’t want to stretch ourselves out too thin. We only have two mats to run the Girls VMI. Brackets with 8 or 12 should run normally.

They will receive individual medals (1st – 4th) and top two teams will earn team plaques, and there will be one Team Sportsmanship Award. Girls Outstanding Wrestlers will also earn fight shorts (3).

COACHES: PLEASE ENTER YOUR GIRLS INTO ONLY ONE TOURNAMENT. IF YOU WANT THEM IN THE BOYS TOURNAMENT, THAT IS FINE BUT THEY CAN’T DO BOTH.

 

FEES: $425 per team, Girls: $10 per wrestler, no more that $100 per team

Course: Outdoor, 1 25 yard, eight (8) lane courses, non-turbulent lane lines, Colorado start and semi-automatic timing system with scoreboards. A separate 8 lane, 25 yard warm up/warm down area will be available during the meet.
Eligibility: Open to any Arizona High School athlete meeting AIA eligibility and any out of state high school team athletes whose participation has been approved by AIA.
Meet Format/Rules:
1) The current AIA Rules of Competitive Swimming will govern.
2) It is the intent that this event will meet eligibility requirements as an Invitational for State qualifying purposes. Invitational results will be submitted to AIA per AIA rules by the host team and/or meet director.
3) Time trials will NOT be offered at this meet.
4) The AIA controlled meet warm-up procedure will be enforced. Feet first entry into the warm up lanes will be enforced. Dive entries only in lanes specifically designated by the referee during warm up.
5) Deck changing is strictly prohibited.
All events are pre-seeded, timed final events, except the 500 free which will be deck seeded after positive check in. Only the top 32 fastest times will be seeded for the 500 Free. Time Standards are required for entry into the 500 Free, 200 Free and 200 IM. The top 32 fastest times for the 500 Free will is swum slowest to fastest entered into the meet.
1) Swimmers must positively check-in for the 500 free with the Clerk of Course by the start of the meet in order to swim this event. After the start of the meet this event will be seeded.
2) Entry times must be the swimmers best Short Course yards time or NT (no time). Swimmers may use a previous years’ time or USA Swimming time for entry purposes.
3) Each Team is limited to FOUR (4) swimmers per individual event and TWO (2) relay entry’s per relay event. Except the 50 and 100 Free where each team is allowed to enter up to SIX (6) athletes.
4) All Swimmers are limited to a maximum of (FOUR) 4 events (individual plus relays) for the meet, with a maximum of TWO (2) individual events.
5) Psych sheets will be posted on Pitchfork Aquatics Website at www.PitchforkAquatics.com no later than Tuesday October 1, 2019. NOTE: If errors are noted, Coaches must notify the meet director Sam Kramer no later than 5pm on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019.
Entries: All entries MUST be received electronically. Paper entries will not be accepted. No late entries or deck entries will be accepted. Entries can be submitted using Hy-Tek Team Manager or Team Manager Lite. The Hy-Tek entry files may be downloaded from the Pitchfork Aquatics Website at www.PitchforkAquatics.com. Please email the entries to Sam Kramer at coachsamk@gmail.com no later than 5:00pm on Friday, September 27th, 2019.
